This timeline charts the history of five diseases - HIV/AIDS, smallpox, influenza, malaria, plague, and tuberculosis - and their impact on civilization. In order to provide a historical context to the diseases, also included in this timeline are significant events in world history.

To scroll through the timeline, click and drag the timeline either left or right, then click on the items of interest in the timeline for more details. Use the darker horizontal field at the bottom of the timeline to scroll through the timeline at a more accelerated rate. Center the events you would like to explore in the highlighted space at the center of the dark horizontal field, and they will be viewable in the large horizontal viewing area of the timeline. The entries for each disease are color-coded. Please see the legend above the timeline for further information. Also included is "jump-to" functionality below the timeline, which allows you to quickly navigate between eras on the timeline.
